Get Involved--Senior Recitals.

Emily Davis will be holding her senior recital on Thursday, September 10, at 7:30 in Krikac Auditorium.  She'll be singing works by Robert Schumann and Eric Satie, both of whom I may talk about briefly later in the course.  If you are a fan of serious vocal music, you'll love this recital.  Emily has a wonderful voice.

If you like, you can earn a couple of "get involved" points for commenting on this or any other senior recitals given this semester. For each recital you attend, just note here which piece you liked best or found particularly interesting or unusual.

  1. Emily's recital was my first recital ever and she sent the bar very high. She has an amazing voice!! My favorite song that she sang was the very first one, "Quando m'en vo' from La boheme."

  2. I went to Emily's recital last night and thought it was amazing! I loved A LOT of her pieces but found "Screw Spring" really funny. Something that I found interesting was that the piano accompaniment of "Je te veux" sounded like it was from the movie "UP".

  3. My sister and I really enjoyed the recital. I prefer instrumental music myself, so I enjoyed the piano and sax solos most. However, I did like the one about The Hatter - the lyrics were hilarious.

  4. I went to Max Chamberlain and Calvin Cramer's recital. My favorite pieces Max did were the ones by Henry Purcell. My favorite piece Calvin did was Cornet Caroline because I liked how all the different instruments sounded together.

    1. I know the program said "Cornet Caroline,' but it's really Cornet Carillon. Here's another version, nice, but not nearly as good as Grant Manhardt's D7 version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIRKGOcCYnE

  5. Emily did a great job on her senior recital! She sang one of the pieces that I performed for the Concerto Aria competition, Quando men vo. Beautiful aria, worked really well in her voice!

I also of course loved my fiance's recital, Calvin Cramer, I attended a lot of his rehearsals so I know how difficult some of those pieces were, even though I am not a brass person, and I think he nailed them!

  6. I went to Jon and Natalie's senior recital. I love Natalie's voice so it was very cool to see her showcase it. They both performed very well.
I also went to Jamie Stadel and Austin Fordham's senior recital. I loved Jamie's oboe pieces and Austin sounded great on his tuba.
I went to the concerto/aria competition as well. I wish I could have heard a few more of the vocalists, but I did hear Emily and Eli and they both sounded wonderful! I loved hearing all the instrumentalists too. All of them performed so well. It was a very cool experience to perform on the same concert with so many amazing people!

  7. I went to quite a few senior recitals this year. I attended not only Emily's which was stupendous, but I also went to Jamie Stadels, Jon Millers, Concerto Aria, and Alan Birmiers recital. I really enjoyed the concerto aria because there was so much talent there. I would have hated to judging that because I would have said that they all deserved to win because they did! It just goes to show you how much talent is on our campus! I really hope that more people go to these events!
