Gendercide--Extra Credit

"Never again" said the Jews (and many others) about the Holocaust. However, there have been many such tragedies in the 20th and 21st centuries, some of them going on right now. Please take a look at the "case studies" on the Gendercide site. Choose one of the studies and comment here on that article/case study. In studying for the final exam, you might find particularly useful the Armenia case study, the Bangladesh case study,  the Nanking (Nanjing) case study, and the Rwanda case study.  In what way does the information on this site help justify the 20th century's nickname "The Age of Violence" or the 21st century's nickname "The Age of Stupidity"?

  1. I read the Armenian case study and think that violence and ignorance are justifiable nicknames for the last two centuries. The violence was atrocious and the fact that US presidents refused to bring this genocide to light, for the sake of not upsetting an ally, as perpetuating ignorance.

  2. I read the case study on the Armenian Genocide and agree with the nickname "The Age of Violence". The fact that so many people lost their lives for no reason without knowing what was going on is tragic. What is also scary is that Turkish citizens and the Kurds were so willing to help massacre innocent Armenians.

  3. I read the Armenian case study. The extent of evil depravity that humans seem to be able to stoop down to never seizes to astonish and sicken me. When humans become such monsters and the rest of world wants to ignore it, sweep it under the rug and/or even deny it is additional wickedness. Atrocities like this should not happen, and when they do, there should be action in my opinion. These genocides that keep happening are beyond disgusting and frightening. Seems no one is safe. To me, denial perpetuates and defends these actions and is a silent approval. Age of Violence? Age of Evil, violent evil.
