  1. I find Queen Elizabeth I interesting because she was a powerful woman ruler, who never got married. Who's primary goal was to avoid war.

  3. The "discovery" of the America's and the many things we were taught along with many things that were not. It funny to see how the country can control what is thaght through free education and might be the reason for our ignorance in parts in history... I hope college can change this feeling of unawareness that we've grown up believing.

  6. Military history is my favorite area of history because of the way wars have shaped our country and the world. I also think that we can learn from past wars and conflicts in order to avoid repeating the same mistakes and atrocities that have occurred because of arrogance and ignorance.

  9. I enjoy learning about World War I and II because it was a major revolution and industrialization period for America. The mass production and engineering at the time still amazes me because they had so little (& no technology). I'm also intrigued by the evolution of military tactics throughout history.

  11. I think the most interesting part to learn about in history class is about all the different wars that went on through out the world. My absolute favorite to learn about is WWII because I think it is very important to today's history. I think it is important because a lot of things changed during that time of history and if one thing would of been different a lot of other things would of changed as well.

  12. I enjoyed U.S. History in high school. I especially enjoyed when we watched a History Channel series called "The Men Who Build America", in which we learned about different powerful men such as J.P. Morgan, John Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, and Cornelius Vanderbilt. I loved seeing how they built modern day America and how they made names for themselves in such a hard time in our history.

  13. To me, the most interesting event in history was the Cold War. It really shaped America into what it is today and brought about many new pieces of technology that we still use today. The Cold War would unite Americans at times and then would also divide them. Throughout the Cold War, there were many more unofficial wars that took place to fight Communism.

  14. I think all history is fascinating and important, there is always something you can learn from it. But I do agree that our military's history is very inspiring. It teaches us that we shouldn't take anything for granted.

  15. WWII and the Holocaust, in my opinion, are the most intriguing part of history. I find it so fascinating how one man, Hitler, persuaded so many people to believe his beliefs and follow him. In high school, every research paper I did was usually on WWII/Holocaust. I hope we touch on WWII and the Holocaust in this class. I look forward to all the history we will cover!

  16. In my opinion I find Hitler to one of the most interesting characters in history. The way he rose to power and convinced his people that what they were attempting to do was right is truly captivating. He showed how moldable the human brain is. The closest thing to world domination in my opinion that we have seen.

  17. I find the Civil Rights Movement to be of interest. The figures of the time (Dr. King, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, etc.) and what they applied to the time period is truly inspiring. To me, this movement aids to define the saying, "If you can believe it, you can achieve it!"

  18. The most interesting facet of history has to be World War Two. The way Hitler used the poor economic conditions to rally the German people behind him was ingenious. With this power he was able to start the most devastating war in history. This war bred some of the greatest leaders of the 20th century. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this war is that it is responsible for creating one of the most powerful weapons this world has ever seen.

  20. I think that one hugely historical event in our history was the freedom of the slaves by Abraham Lincoln. He was a very interesting figure because he believed that everyone should be free and not oppressed by others. Lincoln was a well liked president and made many impacting changes for the betterment of our society and for that, I think is the reason for his untimely murder. -Tony (Anthony) Newman

  21. I think that Hitler is an interesting figure in history. The fact that he was an artist and then turned into one of the most famous dictators in history is just curious. Also, I am interested in WWII, mainly because of my Grandfather.

  22. I find the civil War my most interesting historical event. It was a time of great change and of great trial for America as both the South and the North fought for their beliefs of freedom and what they deemed as morally right,

  23. Historical event I find interesting is the "Scramble for Africa". A time of colonization, invasion and occupation of Africa. This brought about technological advancement and the industrialization. Also the development of quinine for malaria.

  25. Broadly speaking, I am incredibly interested in America's history of wars. I enjoy reading about each particular war and how the causes and effects of one war can influence other individuals, governments, or countries. I am also fascinated in learning how small battles or outbreaks can lead to the beginning of others wars for similar, yet sometimes unrelated, reasons. Learning how and why America was involved in certain wars is particularly intriguing.

  28. I personally think that Martin Luther is one of the most well-known historical figures. Without him, the Lutheran Church wouldn't have been formed, as well as a lot of other churches that stem from the Lutheran Church. He played a big role in the way we worship God.
    -Joe Jay

  29. Someone I tend to find very interesting is Martin Luther King Jr. He inspired a lot of people to change the way they think and helped shape the future into a place where we defend one another from each other.

  30. Of all the historical figures, the one that stands out the most to me is Jesus. Now i am by no means a religious man, in fact I am an atheist, but I am very aware of his teachings. He was really the first man to stand up against the church and, using their own teachings, demonstrated how corrupt the church had become. He taught people to turn the other cheek and treat others as you would like to be treated. He stood for equality and the preached of a world living in harmony. Jesus' teachings were so fundamentally good that 2000 years later people still know his name. This is why Jesus is the most influential man in history.

  35. I like those moments in history when the "good" underdogs rise up. An example would be like the African Americans gaining rights in the United States and women gaining rights. I also enjoy looking at how certain dates overlap with certain events. Also, hearing the word "history" makes my mind goes back to the 17th century, but it amazes me how not so long ago the 1930s were.
